Connected. Trees are connected in ways we're only just beginning to understand. There are families of trees whose roots connect them to each other. When I see the strips of bark fall from the trees and intertwine in the breeze I am reminded of all the family I am connected to around the world and in history too. We are surrounded by such a great company of witnesses, connected by faith to those whose lives have been examples and encouragement to us as we remember them. 40x40cm framed wood panel Acrylic and mixed media

Considering the lilies. Noticing the small things and paying attention to the natural world, the beauty of wild flowers, the sound of the wind in the trees or the call of the birds is like stepping back from worry about the state of the world and even every day decisions like what to wear. 50x50cm framed wood panel Acrylic and mixed media

Within. Can I tell it any other way than slant? Those fleeting moments of joy and hope are often too bright or too subtle to fully set out. There are however, those liminal places, often just tantalizingly beyond the edge of our perception, where we might experience the grace that allows us to see through the veil. There we glimpse the divine love extended to all things. A moment like the transition of shadow to dawn, imperceptible and yet perceived, will also briefly take you there, to the surprising truth of the beauty at the heart of life. 40x40cm framed wood panel Acrylic and mixed media

Angophora Joy. A big old angophora tree stands to the side of the track from the paddocks to our house and I love tracing my hand along the ribbed bark and looking up to see the twists and turns of its massive branches. By contrast, the flowers come from small green pods and with their delicate white fronds look like tiny dancers. 50x50cm framed wood panel Acrylic and mixed media on wood panel

Seeds and leaves. Seed pods curl and twirl like tiny dancers and the leaves around them follow as their attentive partners. Softer shades of pink and orange on the newest growth add a delicacy to the brighter greens of the leaves that have a longer story to share. This is a mixed media painting on canvas made with acrylic paint, collage, crayons and ink to share these little delights with you. 76x76cm framed wood panel Acylic and mixed media

Dancing. The sound of the wind, the song of the birds and the rustle of leaves join together in a glorious melody and they call us to come and dance along. This is a mixed media painting on canvas layered with acrylic paint, collage, crayons and ink. 76x76cm framed wood panel Acrylic and mixed media

Billabong Song. When the birds chirp, twitter, screech and call, when the wind blows through the trees, when the frogs croak all night and the sound of a chainsaw is heard in the distance, you know you’re in the bush. 30 x 30 x 4cm cradled wood panel without frame Acrylic and mixed media on wood panel

Bush song. I love this sunburnt country even though I came from green and shaded lanes. It sings to me a song of beauty, a sometimes soulful melody from a deeper, older place than we are usually conscious of. Size 60 x 60 x 3cm cradled wood panel Acrylic and mixed media on wood panel

Between waters. Millingandi, Merimbula and Pambula are surrounded by water: lakes, creeks, rivers and streams and with the sea not far away, this area is rich in natural beauty and offers sights, sounds and smells to shape memories and experiences to treasure of this special place. The bush is a noisy place. Painting the sounds of the bush is my way of noting the beauty all around me and being able to share the joy I feel. I’ve recorded my morning walks around Millingandi and made them into a scrapbook of paint and sound: a mix of joyful tweets and calls, kookaburra laughs and magpie warbles as well as the sounds of my feet crunching through dry grasses and twigs or splashing through running water.
